(German guests, stayed in EE from 20 to 22, November, 2011)
We enjoyed our stay at Espace Elastique a lot, many thanks to Veronica and her staff.
Tai O and especially the little Hotel Espace Elastique is the perfect place to relax after a (business) trip and to do some hiking. After many hours sitting on busses and trains we looked forward to come to Lantau and our experiences exceeded our expectations, we had a very great 3 days with hiking.
Tai O to Big Buddha and Lantau Peak
Time: approx. 4 hours to Big Buddha and 1-1,5 hrs. to Lantau Peak (Lantau Trail section 6,5,4)
From Tai O bus station follow the main road and turn right the first street or go over the bridge. Follow the little street then you will directly come to Lantau Trail and take the left path up the hill. From now on you just follow the trek (inverse direction to Lantau trail map). You have signs everywhere. When arriving at the main road again we had to follow the road up to the Big Buddha as the trail was redirected. Arriving at Po Lin Monastery, there is a vegetarian restaurant inside the temple area, it is cheap and delicious after 4 hours of walking. The monastery is worth a visit as well.
From Po Lin Monastery to Lantau Peak it is another 450 height difference, you can do it in 1-1,5 hrs. From Po Lin Monastery we took the bus back to Tai O.
Walk around Tai O to Dolphin watch point
This is a nice little walk with good overview around Tai O. Follow the path to Hau Wong Temple and then follow the sign uphill to Dolphin watch point. Up the watch point there is a little pavilion. You can follow the trek further the coastal line, then you reach a natural path downhill that leads to Tai O again on the other side of the hill.
Walk to Cheung Sha Beach
We took the bus to Shui Hao. Near the bus stop you can walk up the hill on the left side to reach Lantau Trail again (section 10). The trail follows a little road alongside the flood waters system. It is an easy walk with nice views to the coastal line of Lantau. Near Cheung Sha take a road or path downhill and you will reach Cheung Sha Beach. We first went to Cheung Sha lower Beach and enjoyed nice food and views in an Australian restaurant. Then we walked along the beach to Cheung Sha Upper Beach (there is a nice viewpoint with a little pavilion in between). From Cheung Sha Upper Beach there is a bus back to Tai O.
