"During our holiday we have made serveral hikes on Lantau island. They were very rewarding. There are good signs indicating which way to go. And the trails themselves are well maintained. Nature is unspoiled and during the walks you will meet only a few people enjoying the walk like yourselves.
One trail took us from the Big Buddha, along the East side of Shek Pik reservoir downhill to Shek Pik, a walk that will take you around four hours. From Shek Pik, there were several busses to take us back to Espace Elastique in Tai O. The views are spectacular, the path is not too steep and because it is only going downhill it is not such a big effort. Walking down, you will see the huge reservoir on your right hand side, between the mountains. It is a great trail to walk!
Next day we walked along the sea in southern direction, again towards Shek Pik. A much bigger distance and a more challanging climb than the other trail. Views of the sea and cliffs are spectacular. And as there are hardly any people living in this area you feel the extreme contrast with Hong Kong. It is amazing how remote and quiet it is along this coast. You will see big spiders in their nets. We saw a Sea eagle and many black kites. It will take you about seven or eight hours. As there is no village along the way, nor a restaurant, you will have to bring your own food and drinks. In Shek Pik you can again take the bus to Tai O or in any other direction."
